Things We Learned As We Study The Scriptures….

(not a spiritual post, by the way…)

Every night, the kids gather in our room and we read our scriptures together.  It’s part of our evening routine.  It’s amazing what you can learn when you are exhausted and surrounded by your family. (who are normally cracking up about something!)

For example, this brilliant observation:  Nephi was an aspie!

Asperger’s, high-functioning autism, whatever you want to call it, is a part of our family’s narrative.  So we see the traits.  Like no gray – only black or white.

I’m seeing Nephi in a whole new light – and how many of the autism traits are desirable gospel qualities.  Slow to speak, hyper focusable, clearly defined ways to do things, clearly defined right and wrong.  And since autism is genetic, it explains so much about Nephite/Lamanite culture.

I do think it would make a fascinating paper for a psychologist and religious scholar!

(Please don’t take this post seriously.  We need sleep over here!!)
