Our Week

Last Sunday – Becca finished sewing her quilt.  It looks really nice.  Jason made wings for the Super Bowl.

Monday Bella spent down town.  For Family Home Evening we made homemade cream puffs and Joy wanted to do Daddy’s hair.

Girl Scout cookies came in!  Becca helped Jessi organize.    Lizzy and Becca working on a school project.  They are building a town and Lizzy got assigned to make the hospital.  We all thought that was very appropriate!

Sammi – the original, and Bella in therapy.  She and we learned that she likes to dance!  Jason got his new glasses – we are excited about these.  They will give his eyeballs some time to breathe –  his hard contacts are very hard on his eyes.

Wednesday night was New Beginnings.  Sammi was introduced which was nice.  It was a lovely evening.  I think the thing I will remember the most from the evening was Becca.  She was asked to bear her testimony.  She, like her mother, does not enjoy large groups.  She can bear in testimony to her friends and family, but large groups are another matter.  She fasted and prayed to prepare for her assignment and she did it.  I was very proud of her.  It was a hard thing and she did it.

Thursday Joy was scheduled for a sedated ABR.  They gave her as much med as they could in an outpatient setting, and nothing.  They could not make her go to sleep.  So we went home.  She was so loopy –she couldn’t walk a straight line.  Poor baby!

 

 

Friday was Lizzy’s 8th birthday!!  She started the day off with cinnamon toast and hot chocolate.  We found a lizard in the kitchen that morning – very cool for our little Lizard Lizzy!  Sammi and I brought her lunch at school.  Grandma and Grandpa arrived after a very difficult drive from Iowa.  We had red velvet cake – gotta love me a true Texas gal!

Happy, happy birthday my Lizzy girl!!!  Eight years old!

Saturday was busy – Jason and his parents worked on a couple of projects around the house.  The kids played.  Linda hemmed Jason’s new white pants.  Bella was beautiful.  And I prepped for the evening.

And that evening my beautiful eight year old was baptized.  She made her first covenant with her Heavenly Father.  I was so happy and so proud.  Thank you to everyone who came to her baptism.  What a special day for our family.  My baby girl was baptized.

Our Week

On Monday we had no nurse.  Our night nurse stayed for an extra 2 1/2 hours so I could get the girls off to school.  But to pick up Joy, we just had to take a big breath and take Bella with us.  Joy thought it was wonderful to have her sister at school!  (I , of course, did my best to keep her away from all of those germs!)

For Family Home Evening, we talked about growing spiritually – how it doesn’t just happen over night.  It takes time, diligence, and patience.  Then we planted seeds for our new garden.  I’m hoping to get lots of usage out of that garden this year!

Tuesday was wet and yucky.  I cancelled Bella’s appointment down town and we stayed put.  I’ve had to use O2 lately and I don’t want to push anything.  I told her I wasn’t emotionally ready for anything right now, so please behave.  We made it through the week at home.  I am grateful.  When I thought she was going to die every day, I was prepared.  She is doing so well right now that I’m not guarding my heart as closely.  I think it would hit really hard if something were to happen with her right now.  Meanwhile, Jessi wrote stories.  I love my kiddos imaginations!!

Wednesday – busy.  It froze!  That was a glass of water on Tuesday!  Sammi made chocolate covered bananas – very yummy.  And Liz was Liz!

That night was class activities in YW – as secretary of YW it’s an awkward night for me.  Where do I go?  If our board isn’t full, I just fill in where needed.  But for the moment, we have a full board, so I stayed home.  The rest of us Turpins had a blind pink lemonade contest.  Jason made four different lemonades – it was all very scientific and fun!

Sammi came home with this beautifully decorated cake.  It was just as tasty as it is beautiful.  Becca had a night on self-esteem that she and her leaders had planned for her class.  Becca said something to me that I have been pondering.  She said during one very spiritual part while youth from other wards and classes were running and screaming through the halls, “it was calm (in their classroom) in the midst of the chaos.”  That is the second time she has used that phrase with me.  The other time was after her Patriarchal Blessing.  There was a terrible storm raging outside the Elmer’s home, but inside it was spiritual and safe.   It’s one of the things I hope for my children – that in these crazy times, their lives will be islands of calm in the midst of the chaos of this pre-second coming world.

Thursday, Sammi and I made rice balls or onigiri.  Onigiri are common food in bento boxes.  Sammi’s essay is almost finished, but we have learned a lot from it!  Jason has been going to the eye doctor.  Hopefully he’ll have a new set of glasses and contacts soon.

 

And then Friday…..Houston’s Winter Storm…school was cancelled!  We were all home – no work for Jason even.  But we had no snow, only ice.  That was disappointing.  Oh well, it was a day just to be together – and to be thankful for our warm home and plenty of food.        Even though we had no snow, the kids loved breaking up the ice on the trampoline and making ice angels!

Saturday was Lizzy Day!  It started the night before.  Lizzy spent the night with Linda all by herself.  Jason and I took her out to Olive Garden for lunch.  She loved it!  She was so stuffed!  I am going to be making their wonderful soup some time this week.  After that it was off to Build A Bear where she created Ivie.  We went to Toys R Us next where she spent the last bit of her money.  That evening she went out for sushi.  Lizzy said, “I love Lizzy Day!”  Happy almost birthday, baby girl!

Other events of Saturday:  preparing for our fire inspection and Becca working so hard on her quilt.
